Tulle Tutu Trend

The opening for each SITC episode, there was Ms. Bradshaw rocking a lovely tutu skirt. I was amazed when Fields dished that the iconic skirt was from a bargain bin and cost a whopping $5! (read full story here).

This is a style I don't think every girl can pull off. Careful what you pair it with to avoid looking like an adult ballerina or a cracked out fairy.

This ultra feminine look is sneaking up all over the place and on celebs:

When looking online try searches, use tulle as well as tutu for best results.(For example Forever21 and Nordstrom have them listed under tulle in the search)

Want to make your own tutu skirt just like Carrie's? Here is tutorial showing you how you can do it yourself (granted you know how to sew).

Ladies: Dress the Part

If you are a lady then dress like one. If your not a lady, well I can't help you there. Ever since I was a little girl, I loved to dress up. There is nothing more ladylike to me then dresses. From work to NYE and all there is between, the colors, patterns, styles, and colors are endless. I contantly find myself browsing sites like Dorothy Perkins (which the Kardashians now have partenered), Asos, Edressme, and of course all the random sites Pinterest takes me too. Speaking of, here some cute ones I've spotted lately online (most of which I cannot afford):

Oreo Cake Truffles

A friend was asking me for an easy cookie recipe for her neighborhood holiday cookie exchange and instantly this easy one came to mind.

This recipe is a non-bakers trifecta- only 3 ingredients, quick, and delicious...oh did I mention they are NO BAKE?!

Ingredients:

  • One package of regular Oreos (3 full sleeves)
  • One block of softened cream cheese
  • Dolci Frutta Chocolate (in white or milk- your choice) *see my past blog entry for more on this
How to:

  1. Using a food processor, grind up all of the Oreos. Make sure to grind fine, eliminating all chunks and large pieces.
  2. Using a stand mixer, blend together cookie crumbs and block of cream cheese. Softened cream cheese blends together nicely. If the cream cheese is rock hard and cold, you are going to have issues.
  3. Roll mixture into small balls (about the size of a bouncy ball) and place on a parchment paper lined cookie sheet. They will look like little balls of coal.
  4. Place in the refrigerator for about 15 minutes.
  5. Follow microwave directions for Dolci Frutta....you can use melted chocolate instead, but trust me it's easier, less messy, and better tasting using the Dolci Frutta.
  6. Dip chilled Oreo balls into the chocolate and let them sit. You may have to dip them twice to completely coat all sides. After they dry store in fridge.
**To make dipping them in chocolate easier, you can stick a toothpick into each ball before putting into the fridge. Then when you go to dip, they are already on the toothpick, which makes it easy to dip into the chocolate.**

There are many ways you can play around with this recipe by how you decorate them. You can use white or milk chocolate on the outside and can create swirl patterns or add sprinkles. Here are some cute ones I saw online:

Saying Sunday

I'm constantly on the go.
With my full time job, grad school & Ravens I have my fair share of commitments.
Not being able to work out from recent surgery, has been tough. It was my stress reliever and natural anxiety remedy. I'm hanging in there...just a few more days until I can get back out there and start running again :)

Chambray: New wardrobe staple or trend?

Is Chambray is the new wardrobe staple?
Chambray may be in France, but Chambray shirts are everywhere this season!

With Chambray, the fabric weight and color are both lighter then traditional denim. Just like denim, the color can vary and the style can be dressed up or casual- depending on what you pair it with. Chambray traditionally has been used to make men's shirts, however just like "boyfriend" jeans, the look has crossed over into women's wear. The look is classic, but casual and I'm not convinced the look is here to stay, but with inexpensive options it's not a huge investment.

Want your own? Try these at J Crew or Nordstrom

Below are some different ways Chambray can be worn. As always some looks I like better then others....

Oliva Palermo pairs with denim...not a fan, but I do like her shoes :)

All the way buttoned...not a fan of this look.

Olsen unbuttons and tucks in the top- like this better!

Not a fan of the pull over Chambray...perfer the traditional button down.

Men rocking the look! Love with the stone colored khakis.

I've begun to live by this...except for when I go to the gym.
Hopefully neither or there.
