Sequin of Events

A few weeks ago, my Raven's BFF Lauren sported a beautiful Bebe sequin dress for her bachelorette party. Since then I've been seeing sequins everywhere and could not be more excited- what girl doesn't just love sequins? You can do a little or a lot and there are so many color options. This look isn't just for NYE anymore...perfect for a night out on the town.

Here are some looks I'm loving:

I LOVE THIS ENTIRE LOOK!

My Pinterest Fails

Pinterest is filled with seemly endless inspiration, recipes, and home remedies. Some pins I have tried and loved and others were nothing more than a waste of time and money.

After stumbling across this hilarious blog Pinstrosity, I learned I was not alone and I thought I should share some of my own misses as well.

Let's start with food:

This is the picture of the only 2 ingredient recipe for pineapple angel food muffins. Looks good right? I thought so as well and sounded so easy- only 2 ingredients and the pin also boasted to be "fat free"!

I followed the instructions as directed and combined the two ingredients which whipped up into an almost science experiment consistency. Not dissuaded, I continued and filled the cupcake tins and baked for 350 for 40 minutes or until golden brown. I was left with dry and overflowing muffins that not only looked disgusting but tasted awful too. Not to mention this recipe could have made at least 4 trays of 12!

My advice is too not follow any pins that do not link to an actual web page. I have never seemed to have any luck with this type and it's also a disadvantage since you cannot read any feedback, reviews, etc.

Another Crappy Recipe:

Chipolte at home and healthy!? Yes please! So I tried this "Copy Cat, Skinny Barbacoa Beef" and should be renamed to Barbacoa BARF! This one had tons of rave reviews.....however my husband and I couldn't even stand the smell of it! This was a HUGE waste of ingredients, time, and left me scrambling to find something else to make for dinner last minute.

Around the house tip:

This tip was to soak old paint brushes in vinegar for 30 minutes and they would be "as good as new!"

Wrong! Not only did I waste my time and a bottle of vinegar- I had to wash out the gross smelling paint brushes. My brushes looked exactly the same after as they did pre-vinegar.

Hair Tip:

Simply flat iron over twisted sections of dry hair for easy beach waves! WOW! Sounds to easy- well because it doesn't work. No other way around this one, just really doesn't work!

Beauty tip:

Ohh looks sooo easy! And this one comes from Martha's people at Real Simple? Just had to try!!! Simply dip your wet nails into a bowl of could ice water and just like magic they dry! NOT! There is a reason you don't see this at any salons, because it doesn't dry your polish it just f*cks it all up!

Hope you enjoyed my Pinterest Fails....I'm sure there will be more to come!! Feel free to comment with your fails :)

Kabobs!

When we moved to Baltimore just over two years ago, Jas and I would spend random weekend mornings exploring the local restaurants, shops, and back roads. One afternoon, just outside of town, we discovered the small historic town of Oella, nestled in between old Ellicott City and Catonsville.

In Oella we discovered what has now become a weekly shopping destination- a meat market by the name of J W Treuth and Sons. Upon arrival you will notice the sign with their motto "Fresh Killed" and the long line of patrons waiting in line for their turn at the counter to select their goods.

My typical purchase usually consists of buying their fresh boneless skinless chicken breasts (which at my Friday visit were only $2.99 per pound), bone in pork chops (for Jason and are usually about $1.70 each) and lastly my personal fav filet. The last two trips, I did pick up some of their lovely beef cubes which happen to be perfect for kabobs! I would be doing huge disservice if I failed to mention that this is also the place to get your Boston Butt for pulled pork, chicken wings, or some ribs!

Outside the store, there is a small produce stand from Howard County called Harbin Farms. Lately I have been snagging up their corn and peppers. Everything looks beautiful and is so inexpensive.

Enough about the meat market, lets get to the kabobs (which is really just jargon for skewered meat).

There is no right and wrong when it comes to what to put on each skewer, the basic rule of thumb is to space enough so each item can cook evenly, not to over stuff so skewer can break, and to put meat items on, that will cook the same- meaning their size is all similar.

For my kabobs I used-
  • Green Pepper
  • Red Pepper
  • Yellow Onion
  • Beef Cubes
Simple fresh ingredients.

Yes, really that simple. You can use chicken, pork, sausage, and shrimp. Just remember the shrimp dry out quickly on the grill so do not use those on the same skewer as say the chicken which takes longer to cook.

How to:

  1. Take wood skewers and soak in water. I used a tray and filled it so they could all lay flat.
  2. Cut peppers and onion to similar size about one inch cut.
  3. Season beef. I used Grill Mates Montreal Steak Seasoning in the grinder.
  4. Arrange skewers.
  5. Grill.
Yes, really that simple :)

Kabobs pre-grill

I made these a few weeks back, used Campari tomatoes and red onion. I don't recommend using larger tomatoes as these were, they split open and remained really hot (held heat) and were messy.
