Saying Sunday

As I live the last few days of my 20's this couldn't be more true. Ran in the first DC Nike Women's Half this am and just finished packing my bags for Ocho's Rios.
We (the hubs and I) leave tomorrow and during our trip I'll turn the "big 3-0".

Honestly I couldn't be more excited!

Run farther than your mascara

A few months back, I posted about signing up for what has been called the most popular race in the country, the Nike Women's Series. For the first time the race was held right in DC, instead of it's usual location San Fran! I jumped on the chance for this race and you may remember I blogged about it (New City Same Blue Box)

Well today was race day and I have to say I have never run in a more fun, high energy, positive race!
People were excited and the race was organized so well, from packet pick up to post-race. The route was great, along most of DC's popular sights and waterfront. Here are some pics from this weekend.

Finished!!

Had to buy these! Limited edition Nike Free shoes, with ribbon laces, race date, and DC on back.

Gingham Style

Gingham is a trend that comes and goes year after year and offered in a variety of colors.
It's also a style that if paired incorrectly, can be a fashion nightmare (just like polka dots). However worn with solid, this look can be comfortable, preppy, and classic.

Men can also sport this pattern, but run the risk of looking "lumberjack" if not paired property.

J Crew is notorious for this print and they sell it in many colors. Below is J Crew's classic along with some others.

O's, Bohs, and Cupcakes!

Friday April 5, 2013

Orioles Home Opener is like a holiday in Maryland. People play hooky from work and begin drinking way too early.

No I'm not joking!

This year I made some baseball and O's cupcakes. Yellow cake with cream cheese frosting.

WTF Wednesday

This week's WTF Wednesday post comes from the Baltimore City furniture section of Craigslist.com

A vintage nail head detailed vinyl loveseat for the bargain price of $10!

In case this gets deleted, below is the actual description (don't worry I highlighted the lovely details).

"Cute apartment-sized vintage vinyl loveseat for only $10! Why? The cat peed on it. I love this piece of furniture and wish I could keep it, but I cannot fully get the pee smell out. If you can, you have quite a steal here. This is a forest green vinyl loveseat. There are no rips in the vinyl, but the lining that used to cover up the supports underneath has ripped off (you can't see this unless you turn the loveseat over). The seat cushion is removable, and the lining beneath that is the part affected by the pee. Maybe you can cut it out or replace it? I just hate to send this to the dump. There is a super cute brass tack detail all around the bottom, sides, and up around the back (see last picture). The legs have minor wear consistent with age, and there are some pricks in the arms from those little cat claws. Otherwise great condition. Cash only, you move. Approximately 52" wide by 32" deep by 32" high."

Wow, cat urine stained furniture...who wouldn't want to pay for that!

WTF Wednesday preview.....

So I have decided to start a new weekly post- it's going to be called WTF Wednesdays.

Here is a preview of a WTF Wednesday post....

Who wouldn't want to wear this? This graphic chiffon semi-sheer jacket slash top combines your love of nature with the high-low trend that is "all the rage". Complete with button cuffs, this howling wolf will keep you stylish long into the night.

It can be yours now for $29.80 at Forever 21

Seriously where the F would you wear this?

As seen online....

If you haven't already checked out the blog, "J's Everyday Fashion" I recommend you do so now!

This girl is super creative when paring affordable everyday outfits and provides links to the clothing (or similar style) with each post. Although I disagree with purchasing cheap clothing for the majority of your wardrobe, the blog does have some clothes from Loft, Express, etc.

A recent post (here) did lead to me purchasing an skirt from Target.com (here). Since I had a gift card and the skirt was only $23 I decided to go ahead and buy it. I really liked the bold white and blue print and the pencil fit and was surprised by how well it was made once it arrived. In the post, J explains how she was returning the skirt, since she purchased the lightly less expensive Forever 21 dress in a similar print (here). I prefer the look of the skirt and all dresses are too short on me from that store!

Target apparently run's big in their sizes. I ordered a 2P (the smallest size) and it fits well. The length is right above the knee.

I plan to pair the skirt with a deep navy blouse and my nude Louboutin's.

Yummy Salad Recipe

I stumbled upon this gem of a salad and had to share!
It's healthy, easy, and great for lunch or as a side.

Ingredients

  • 1 can (14 ounces) cannellini beans (or any white bean...see below) rinsed and drained
  • 1 pint grape tomatoes, halved
  • 4 scallions, thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  • Coarse salt and ground pepper

Directions

  1. In a medium bowl, toss together beans, tomatoes, scallions, oil, and lemon juice; season with salt and pepper.
  2. To store, refrigerate up to 1 day.

Cook's Note

This bean salad gets even better as it sits. You can make it up to a day ahead.

From Martha Stewart

My Note

White Beans come in various varieties with the 3 most popular being: Cannellini, Great Northern and Navy. For more on these check out go here.
